Program Description
During this program, listeners will hear a wide selection of music from the 20th century. Our listeners comprise a “broad church” with varying tastes, and to accommodate this Philip plays two hours of popular music from the 40s through to the 70s in styles ranging from easy listening to rock, theatre to film and television themes, and pop to comedy (a little humour can lighten anyone’s day).
From 3pm, hear Jazz Down Under, a segment dedicated to the rich history of Australian Jazz, particularly Dixieland, from the late 1930s to date, an era which has produced wonderful music and world class performers. From time to time, Philip presents interviews with prominent members of the jazz community including singers and jazz historians.
Presenter Profile – Philip Dowd
How did you first connect with GDR?
Through surfing the radio stations to find music of the types/genres I like, and I was delighted to find the eclectic musical programs on Golden Days Radio.
Why did you want to be a presenter?
I believe Golden Days Radio provides a vast community service through an excellent mix of information, news, and especially music to a select audience not otherwise specifically catered for. I am delighted to have the opportunity to be part of this process.
What experience do you want to give your listeners?
Perhaps most importantly that GDR provides genuine and caring company to our our many listeners, many who may be elderly and that the station can be part of their daily lives. To pay careful attention to listeners’ comments and concerns, both as a presenter and receptionist.
