Joan presents “Monday Drive” from 4–7.30pm. The main highlight is “Theatreland” – a 30-minute segment devoted to publicising community theatre in and around Melbourne. Includes interviews with directors, cast members. Joan also plays songs from musicals (e.g. “Sound of Music”) in keeping with theme.
At 7.30 there’s a half-hour segment entitled “Sounds of Sinatra – The Masterpieces/Albums”, featuring songs recorded by Sinatra during his career.
How did you first connect with GDR?
After an 11 year stint at 88.3 Southern FM, (at that stage based in Mentone) I realised how much I enjoyed the medium of radio. I was looking to be involved with a radio station closer to home, and a friend suggested I contact Golden Days.. After listening to the wonderful music and enjoying the wide variety of programs presented, I just knew this was where I wanted to be!
Why did you want to be a presenter?
Having worked in community theatre all my life, I was comfortable “in front of an audience”. So when I got the chance to take on the “Monday Drive” slot I grabbed it. I was able to share my love of community theatre, plus I got to play lots of the music that I grew up with.
What experience do you want to give your listeners?
I want them to enjoy hearing about what’s happening in our community theatres. (Can you see a theme happening here?!) And because I love playing the wide variety of music we have here I want to project that enjoyment, thus making my program one they will want to tune in to.
